Route from Pune to Mumbai

When you are planning the Pune to Mumbai road trip, there are two routes that you can choose from. 

The shortest and the fastest route to reach Mumbai from Pune is through the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The distance via this route is around 150 km which you can comfortably cover in 3 hours when travelling in our Pune to Mumbai Car rental. However, this time can differ with the number and the duration of stopovers. This route goes through destinations such as Hinjewadi, Urse, Devghar, Lonavala, Khandala, Rasayani and Panvel. 

Another Pune-Mumbai route is around 160 km long and goes via NH 48/Old Pune-Mumbai Highway. To cover this distance, you need about 4 and a half hours of driving. On this route, you travel via Pimpri, Chinchwad Panvel, Kamshet, Lonavala, Khopoli, Khalapur and Panvel.

Elephanta caves

UNESCO World Heritage Site, Elephanta Caves is a group of 7 rock-cut caves. Dating back to the 5th century, these caves are a representation of ancient architectural brilliance of ancient India. Divided in two alcoves, 5 of the caves are associated with Hinduism and 2 belong to Buddhism. 

Gateway of India

Overlooking the Arabian Sea, Gateway of India was built in 1924 by the architect George Wittet. A popular monument, it is also the starting point for ferry rides, especially to Elephanta caves. You will find a lot of stalls selling local snacks here. 

Marine Drive

A must visit in Mumbai, Marine Drive is a 3.6 km long boulevard. Running along the Arabian Sea, it begins from Nariman Point and ends at the Chowpatty Beach. A walk here in the night or the view of sunset from here promises an exceptional experience. 

Colaba Causeway

Siddhivinayak Temple
